Cricket Records That are Nearly Impossible to Break
Cricket is a game that sees a lot of records on a regular basis. The game is challenging, unique, and brings the world together. There are a lot of numbers that get re-written and anything can happen at any time.
Top 10 Records Which Might Never be Beaten
However, there are a few records that might be harder to beat than anything else. Here is a list of the 10 records that are almost impossible to outdo-
1. Captaining at the age of 50
The first superstar the game of cricket saw was Dr. William Gilbert Grace. He captained England at the age of 50 and became the oldest man to do so. Since 1899, this record has stood firm and it looks highly doubtful if anyone will beat it.
2. 50+ runs in three WC Finals
Making a World Cup Final is an achievement in itself, but to score three consecutive 50+ scores as a batsman is another record in itself. It goes to Adam Gilchrist as he smashed two fifties and a century in three finals, which is going to be hard to emulate.
3. 199 first-class centuries
While Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most centuries in international cricket, the most centuries in first-class cricket belongs to Jack Hobbs, who scored an incredible 199 in total.
4. 19 wickets in one match
Jim Laker holds the record for taking the most wickets in a single match. The Englishman took a total of 19 wickets against Australia which still hasn’t been broken by anyone.
5. A 30-year career
Sachin Tendulkar did have a long 24-year career but he doesn’t hold the record for the longest. That privilege falls to English all-rounder Wilfred Rhodes who played for 30 years!
6. Most first-class wickets
Wilfred Rhodes also has the record for the most number of first-class wickets, scalping an incredible 4204 wickets in his long career, which will be hard to beat.
7. 3-over century
Sir Don Bradman, regarded as the greatest batsman of all-time, once scored a century in just 3 overs. One of the overs was 8 balls long and by 18 minutes, he had crossed the century mark.
8. International wicket without bowling
India’s Virat Kohli holds a unique record of getting his first wicket without bowling a legitimate ball. He took Kevin Pietersen’s wicket in a T20I by getting him stumped off a wide ball.
9. Consecutive maiden overs
Indian spinner Rameshchandra Gangaram Nadkarni once bowled 21 consecutive overs without conceding a single run. That record is yet to be broken today and in total, he only gave 5 runs away.
10. Three double-centuries in ODIs
India’s Rohit Sharma holds an incredible record of scoring three double-centuries in ODIs. This is a feat that hasn’t been repeated or broken and it will take a Herculean effort for someone to do it again.
